Allocation SQL Server Management Studio Add-in

Closed Issue: Unable to start SSMS with Add-in on localized version of SQL Server [2174]

I can install the SQL 2005-version successfully on Management Studio 9.00.3042 (german version), but when I start SSMS afterwards it complains about the add-in ("invalid parameter") and offers to remove it. Has anyone seen it working on a localized version?

When I tried to see allocation for one of my databae, i am getting un-handled error "These columns don't currently have unique values."

It works for other databases.

Any idea whats wrong? How to find and fix it in my DB?

Hi,

I installed this and the menu is not showing up on my SSMS. the SQL server is 64 bit however, SSMS is 32 bit version.

Can you suggest what could be wrong?

I have successfully installed smsallocation addin , however no menu appears. I checked the "LoadBehavior" registry key is correctly set to 1.

I installed the 0.4 add-in SQL 2005 and it seems to work accept that it only shows 5 database names but there are 10 within my test server. It lets me type in a db name but it defaults to master everytime. I can select one of the 5 and it works okay. How can I get to the other databases?

This is add-in for SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) to display database allocation information.

It builds on allocation information displayed by SQL Internals Viewer to show how data is allocated in SQL Server files.

The add-in also displays information on space usage, table sizes and total proportion used.

Instructions

After the add-in has been installed click View - Show Allocation Info.

(Note: There's a problem at the moment where the window doesn't appear tabbed to start with. To fix this drag the window and drop it on the centre icon that pops up. This will be fixed in a future version).

What is this showing?

The allocation add-in displays a map that shows how different database object are physically allocated over a database file.

SQL Server stored data in 8KB units called pages. Pages are grouped into extents, which are 8 contiguous pages. SQL Server manages allocation at both a page and extent level.

In the add-in allocation map for the Small, Medium, and Large view each block is a page.

It looks for a menu called 'View', so localized versions won't work. I'll fix it for the next release.

Hi Paul,

That sounds about right. It doesn't recognise that a database is offline or restoring, then crashes. I'll get it fixed in the next version.

I think the problem may be caused by me taking one or more of the databases in my list offline. When they are all online the allocation info window opens up.
